AI Settings
AI Settings governs the intelligence behind Tech Assistant AI and every other tool in the app that calls on AI, from PDF Q&A to the Audio Description Workflow. A Model Selection dropdown lists your available Gemini models, from fast, lightweight options through to the more capable Gemini 2.5 Pro, with Gemini 2.5 Flash marked as the recommended default — a genuinely well-balanced choice for most everyday questions. Changing your selection here saves automatically within moments, confirmed by a quiet "Model updated" toast, and takes effect the next time you use any AI-powered tool.
A Personal API Keys section is where you can move beyond the app's shared free usage pool entirely. A status box tells you plainly whether you're currently using your own key or relying on the free tier. Tapping "Add API Key" opens a form for entering your own Gemini API key, obtained separately from Google, with a "Show API Key" toggle so you can verify what you've typed before saving — the app checks that your key looks structurally valid before accepting it. Once added, a key is activated automatically, and every key you've saved is listed with when it was added and when it was last used, each individually editable or removable, with a "Clear All Keys" option if you want to start over completely.
A Safety Settings section lets you adjust how cautiously the AI filters its own responses across four categories — Harassment, Hate Speech, Sexually Explicit content, and Dangerous Content — each adjustable from blocking almost nothing through to blocking most flagged content, depending on your comfort level.
Finally, a Usage Limits & Bonus Credits section explains exactly where you stand on the free tier: your estimated daily free messages, and a note about "Bonus Credits" — a button on the chat screen itself that grants up to thirty minutes of unlimited use once per day, resetting at midnight local time. If you ever hit the free limit, a brief temporary restriction applies, lifted immediately the moment you add a personal API key — genuinely useful to know if you find yourself relying on Tech Assistant AI heavily throughout the day.
