Backup & Restore

Backup & Restore protects the personal data you've built up inside Tech Assistant, saving it to your own personal Google Drive so it survives a lost phone, a factory reset, or a move to a new device entirely. An info card at the top keeps you oriented at all times, showing your account status, whether Drive access is currently authorized, when you last backed up, and whether you're currently online — since both backing up and restoring require an active connection and a Google-linked account.

Tapping "Backup" opens a Configure Backup screen with six independent toggles, each showing exactly how many local items exist and when that category was last backed up: Tech Assistant AI Chats, Notepad Files, Link Shortcuts, Secure Vault, Web Article Reader History, and Expense Manager Data. Choose exactly which categories matter to you — you're never forced to back up everything at once. If Secure Vault is included, a separate step asks you to create a dedicated passphrase specifically for encrypting your vault backup, with a clear warning that you'll need to remember this passphrase to restore it later — write it down somewhere safe, because it isn't recoverable if forgotten. Tap "Backup Now," watch a live progress indicator, and a success screen confirms exactly what was saved.

Restoring works as a careful mirror of backing up: "Restore" opens the same six categories, this time showing when each was last backed up to Drive, and "Restore Now" merges that cloud data back into your device rather than overwriting anything — restored items that would otherwise duplicate existing ones are clearly marked "(Restored)" rather than silently replacing what's already there. Restoring your Secure Vault requires entering the same passphrase you set when backing it up; getting it wrong produces a clear "Incorrect passphrase" message rather than corrupting anything. A detailed success screen reports exactly what was restored, category by category, so you know precisely what came back.
